Description
1989 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF CONVERTIBLE 1.6 Chassis number: WVWZZZ15ZKK025736 French vehicle registration document • 58,000 km on the odometer • Rare colour combination • Legendary convertible In the 1970s, Volkswagen began looking into a replacement for the Beetle convertible. The brand therefore decided to develop a convertible version based on its new compact saloon, the Golf. Launched in 1979, the Golf Cabriolet was designed and assembled by the coachbuilder Karmann. The model enjoyed sustained commercial success, to the extent that production continued until 1993 (note: production ended in May 1993 to make way for the Golf III Cabriolet), ten years after the Golf I saloon had been discontinued. In 1987, the convertible underwent a facelift, notably incorporating ‘Quartet’-style wraparound bumpers and side skirts, designed to modernise its styling and bring it more closely in line with the Golf II. The example on display is fitted with the 1.6-litre engine and was first registered in 1989. It features a silver body, paired with grey fabric upholstery and a green soft top, and sits on Pirelli-style alloy wheels. Imported from Belgium, where it had been based since 2015, this car now has just over 55,600 km on the odometer, a mileage consistent with its overall condition. This 1989 Volkswagen Golf I Cabriolet stands out for its well-preserved original specification, combining its silver bodywork, green soft top and distinctive Pirelli alloy wheels. Recently registered in France following its time in Belgium, it has just 55,600 km on the clock, making it a fine example representative of Karmann’s production from that era. 1989 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet 1.6 Chassis number: WVWZZZ15ZKK025736 French vehicle registration document • 58,000 km on the odometer • Rare colour combination • Legendary convertible In the 1970s, Volkswagen began looking for a replacement for the Beetle convertible.
