Description
1980 BMW 323i French vehicle registration document Chassis no. 7228084 - Originally registered in France: known history - Only 133,000 km on the clock - Engine overhauled in 2021. The first model in the BMW 3 Series line-up, the E21 was launched in 1975. Offered with four- or six-cylinder in-line engines, ranging from 1.6 to 2.3 litres in displacement, it quickly became a success, with over 1.35 million units produced worldwide. Today, the top-of-the-range version is naturally the most sought-after: the 323i, powered by its 2.3-litre six-cylinder engine producing 143 ch. Performing well on all road types, this Bavarian car, true to the principle of ‘driving pleasure’, perfectly embodies the core values of the Munich-based brand. This 1980 BMW 323i, originally from France, was delivered new to Mr Gilles Demassez, a pharmacist in Seyssel, Haute-Savoie. Copies of its first vehicle registration document and its provisional registration certificate, issued at the time of purchase, are still included in the file. Its second owner, Mr Ranc, used it for a few years before taking it off the road around 1997. It did not return to the road until 2017, after nearly twenty years out of use. Our example features several fittings, including a car radio, a heated rear window, a rev counter and front headrests. The bodywork and upholstery are now in good condition. Its Hennarot colour, particularly sought-after by collectors, gives it a look characteristic of that era. The upholstery, meanwhile, has retained its original configuration. The running gear, braking system and underbody are also in good condition. In 2021, before it joined its current collection, the engine underwent a complete overhaul carried out by the 2B Automobile workshop. The work included, in particular, the replacement of the pistons, the machining of the engine block and the lapping of the valve seats and valves, at a total cost of €9,200. At the time of writing this catalogue, this 323i has 132,769 km on the odometer. This mileage is confirmed by its Histovec report. As the first 3 Series to feature an inline six-cylinder engine, the BMW 323i E21 laid the foundations for a mechanical and stylistic formula that would shape the identity of the brand’s compact saloons for years to come. It remains today one of the most iconic examples of this first generation. 1980 BMW 323i E21 French vehicle registration document Chassis no. 7228084 - Originally French: known history - Only 133,000 km on the clock - Engine overhauled in 2021.
