Description
1965 – Bultaco Matador Mk2 Frame no. unidentified Engine no. M-404220D No registration certificate No roadworthiness certificate Launched in 1964, the Matador was Bultaco’s first off-road model, marking a clear break from the road-going machines the brand had produced until then. Although the prototypes derived from the Sherpa S – which were lighter and more powerful – continued to be used for competition, the off-road role within the range was entrusted to the Matador series. These motorbikes were designed with the rider in mind: fully equipped, comfortable and versatile, performing equally well off-road and on tarmac, they even represented a certain level of luxury. The MK2, a direct evolution of the original model, refines this concept, incorporating feedback from early field use. The engine capacity was increased to 250cc, recognisable by its distinctive cylinder head. Its 250 cm³ single-cylinder two-stroke engine is both simple and efficient, a design built to last and to be maintained far from any fully equipped workshop. In 1965, Bultaco had only been in existence for seven years, but the technical maturity of this machine is testament to a company already fully in control of its capabilities. This particular example stands out for its more than remarkable condition: the mechanics are as good as new and the finish is immaculate. A model of this year and version is now an absolute rarity.
