Description
1962 – Bultaco Metralla 62 Special Frame no. unidentified Engine no. M-804206 No roadworthiness certificate No MOT The Bultaco Metralla 62 is an iconic model from the Catalan manufacturer Bultaco, founded in 1958 by Xavier Bulto after he left Montesa following disagreements over strategy. The context at the time was challenging, with the arrival of the SEAT 600 making cars accessible to the middle classes.  The right balance was struck in 1959 with the Bultaco Tralla 101, an agile and versatile two-stroke model that was both high-performing and commercially viable. The Metralla 62 builds on this vision, representing a key milestone in the brand’s consolidation. It is the logical continuation of the Tralla 101’s success. In 1962, the Metralla 62 was launched with a 196 cm³ single-cylinder engine producing 10 ch at 7,000 rpm, weighing just 97 kg and reaching a top speed of 130 km/h. Its deliberately simple mechanics quickly earned it an excellent reputation, particularly on the British racing circuit – a crucial market for Bultaco’s profitability, as motorbike racing received virtually no media coverage in Spain at the time.   It was the precursor to one of the brand’s road-going successes, the Bultaco Metralla MK2. This particular example features an unconventional set-up: a large-capacity fuel tank, a single-seat racing saddle and no headlight. This type of ‘track/sport’ set-up is fairly standard for a machine of this kind.
