Founded in Barcelona in 1945 by Pere Permanyer, Montesa has become one of Spain’s leading motorbike brands, particularly renowned for its off-road machines. In the 1970s, the brand made its mark particularly in motocross with the Cappra range, which featured various engine capacities and iterations. The 1980 Cappra 125 VF represents one of the final iterations of this 125 cm³ line. Powered by a single-cylinder two-stroke engine, it retains the tried-and-tested design of previous Cappra models whilst benefiting from the advancements of the VF generation.
Produced in limited numbers, it appeared at a pivotal moment for Montesa, which was facing growing competition from Japanese manufacturers. Shortly afterwards, financial difficulties led to Honda acquiring a stake in Montesa in 1982. The Cappra 125 VF thus remains a particularly interesting model in the history of Spanish motocross, as it marks the culmination of the small Cappra models’ era before the brand underwent a radical transformation.
This example is in good condition, retaining all its original features, which make it a motorcycle that is both high-performing and attractive.
