Description
c.1954 Moto Guzzi Galletto 192cc Chassis no. GPC02 Engine no. GPC02 No registration certificate No roadworthiness test The Galletto – meaning ‘little cockerel’ in Italian – was born in 1950 from an original vision: to create a vehicle that was a cross between a scooter and a light motorbike, capable of offering the comfort and practicality of the former with the handling and riding pleasure of the latter. This was a rare ambition for the time, driven by Guzzi’s engineers with the rigour and inventiveness that have characterised the company since its inception. Its 192 cm³ horizontal single-cylinder four-stroke engine – the quintessential Moto Guzzi signature – is a simple and reliable piece of engineering, fitted with a four-speed gearbox and a cardan final drive. This represented considerable technical refinement for a machine of this displacement, at a time when most of its competitors were content with far more rudimentary solutions. Its large wheels – a feature that set it radically apart from contemporary scooters – gave it stability and handling unrivalled in its class. 1954 marks the 192 cm³ version, an evolution of the first-generation 160 cm³ model, with an increased displacement to meet the expectations of a clientele who had quickly recognised the machine’s qualities. The Galletto of this generation is a mature and fully realised design, the result of four years of gradual refinement. This particular example is in perfect working order; it has been serviced and fitted with a new battery. Today, the Galletto is a collector’s item in its own right: understated, elegant and embodying a mechanical philosophy that history has never quite replicated. A piece for enthusiasts who look beyond the beaten track.
