Description
1976 – Ossa Yankee 500cc Frame no. B-510041 Engine no. not visible No registration certificate No roadworthiness test The Ossa Yankee 500 is the most powerful model and the fastest motorbike ever produced by a Spanish manufacturer. It is the result of a collaboration between Ossa and Johan Taylor, the brand’s importer in the United States. Ossa produced this 500cc engine for the American market, but it became a headache for the company in Spain: due to an agreement with the United States, its dealers were not even allowed to fit this new engine to their frames. It was not until 1976, once the exclusivity contract had come to an end, that the model intended for mass production was finally unveiled. Ossa then abandoned the spoked wheels of the prototypes exhibited at motor shows in favour of Targa alloy wheels, and replaced the drum brakes with Brembo disc brakes at both the front and rear. As for the engine, the Yankee was fitted with a 480 cc air-cooled twin-cylinder engine, producing 58 chevaux at 7,500 rpm and mounted on silent blocks. It was still started via a kick-start. Its handling was quickly praised for its agility and driving pleasure, with handling that is just as confident on winding roads as it is on the motorway. This particular model is in very good overall condition, with 7,000 kilometres on the clock. A unique opportunity to acquire a 500 cc two-stroke and enjoy the thrill it offers.
