Originally designed by Frua, the Quattroporte has always been synonymous with elegance and understated luxury. It was at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show that the fifth generation of the model was unveiled, this time designed by Pininfarina, and the formula remains highly successful, featuring a design of great elegance, engineering that is as brilliant as it is audible, and a refined Italian finish. It proved a real success for Maserati, with several thousand units sold, which fuelled demand and led to the emergence of new competitors such as the CLS, the Panamera and the Rapide. Therefore, to remain the leader in the category it created, Maserati unveiled the restyled Quattroporte V in 2008. It was on this occasion that the range was expanded to include the S variant, which reaffirmed the sporty character of the large Italian saloon thanks to a major technical upgrade. It was fitted with the 4.7-litre naturally aspirated Ferrari-Maserati V8 engine producing 430 ch, derived directly from that of the GranTurismo S. This version also features the ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox, which is more modern and more pleasant to use on the road than the previous DuoSelect transmission. The chassis has been specifically tuned with Skyhook-controlled suspension, offering an excellent balance between comfort and dynamism. The facelift brings a redesigned front end with a concave grille inspired by the GranTurismo, as well as a modernised headlight design, whilst retaining the elegant lines designed by Pininfarina. With optimised weight distribution and a limited-slip differential, the Quattroporte S stands out for its particularly balanced handling for a saloon of this size. The interior combines handcrafted luxury with a sporty ambience, featuring Poltrona Frau leather upholstery, precious wood inlays and Maserati’s signature instrument cluster. Produced in limited numbers compared to the German rivals of the time, the Quattroporte S 4.7 is now a characterful ‘youngtimer’, combining elegance, mechanical refinement and authentic driving pleasure. The 2008 Maserati Quattroporte S remains a characterful ‘youngtimer’ today, combining elegance, mechanical refinement and authentic driving pleasure. The car on offer is precisely one of these S-specification examples from the fifth generation of the model in its restyled version. It was delivered new on 11 September 2008 by the Intini dealership and first registered the following day in Luxembourg, before being re-registered in France in 2021 by the current owner. It features a ‘full black’ specification with Nero Carbonio body colour paired with a black leather and carpet interior, complemented by red brake callipers. As well as this stylish, understated and sporty appearance, it boasts a wide range of options, such as an electric sunroof, heated, ventilated and massage-function front seats, tinted rear windows, a rear windscreen sunblind and Homelink… This Quattroporte has also been regularly serviced, as evidenced by the record of maintenance work carried out in Luxembourg and the service history book. In recent years, the total cost of all work carried out – supported by invoices – amounts to just over €15,000, including the replacement of the ignition module, fuel injectors and spark plugs, servicing, and the replacement of the front brake discs and pads, as well as the tyres… Today, therefore, this is a Quattroporte S with just under 72,500 km on the clock, in excellent running condition and with a clean MOT certificate. Aesthetically, the only issue to be addressed is the ‘sticky’ buttons associated with the ‘Soft Touch’ system. The car comes with all its service books and manuals, as well as a spare key and accessories. A genuine alternative to the major German luxury saloons, the Quattroporte S appeals thanks to its rarity, its unique character and its mesmerising engine note. All the more so when you consider that this is one of the finest versions of this sporty family saloon, available to enthusiasts for under €30,000!
