After creating Aixam in the 1980s, following the 1983 takeover of the former Arola company (which already specialised in the production of this type of car), its chairman and founder, Georges Blain, had no intention of stopping there. In the early 90s, the Aixam brand (created by Georges Blain after the 1983 takeover of small car manufacturer Arola) was looking to diversify into 'licensed' cars. Aware that it would be difficult to take on the major manufacturers head-on, Georges Blain decided to re-create a segment that had all but disappeared since the demise of the Citroën Méhari in 1987: that of the beach car and the modular light utility vehicle. The Mega Club (4-seater) was launched in 1992, based on a Citroën AX (chassis, engine and dashboard). It's hard to remain indifferent to the look of the Mega, which can lay claim to an identity all its own, with nothing in common with other cars or vehicles in contemporary French production (which, it's true, isn't very difficult, given that it's the only representative of its category in France). Its styling is, in some respects or seen from certain angles, halfway between a beach car and an off-roader, with the 'cradle' formed by the wheel arches and the thick rocker panel, which supports the rest of the bodywork (i.e. the passenger cell and bonnet), which is set well back from the cradle, resulting in a fairly pronounced indentation. The front of the car, set very low and also integrated into the 'cradle', covers the entire perimeter of the car from the outside, with four round headlights and, on some versions, five-spoke wheels, giving the Mega a sporty, aggressive touch.
