In 1963, Bruce Meyer, a California-based boat and surfboard designer specialising in the manufacture of polyester, came up with the idea of a small beach car with a polyester laminate body on a very common base: the Volkswagen Beetle. This little car had no equivalent: it had no doors, a very round nose and a shortened chassis, and was based on the modified chassis of the Beetle. In 1964, the first Meyer Manx began to appear on the beaches, and everyone was astonished by its innovative yet endearing looks. Meyer sensed that his creation was on the way to becoming legendary. He began selling Buggies in kit form in 1966, and this car, the symbol of a whole generation in love with freedom and the spirit of the Sixties, met with unprecedented success. The concept was taken up by a number of manufacturers around the world, including SOVRA, based in the Loiret region of France, which launched the LM Buggy, named after its creator Michel Landois. With the Beetle's 4-cylinder flat engine and very limited weight, performance was breathtaking. Based on a 1971 Beetle chassis, our charming Buggy has been fitted with an LM fibre body to give it four seats. Mechanically, it is equipped with a 1,285 cm3 AB engine developing 44 bhp, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox. This Buggy also has attractive wheels with chrome hubcaps and a basic tarpaulin to protect you from the elements or the sun.
