Description
A rare Talbot Lago T 26 Record Coach Superprofilé, 1951, delivered new on 19 December 1951 to the Count of Ormesson. Coach Type 33, right-hand drive, body no. 2574, chassis no. 102-101. Odometer reading: 02 158 km (accumulative and not guaranteed). Sunroof. The engine (No. 26586) is a 4,482 cm³ inline six-cylinder unit producing 170 CH, featuring overhead valves and hemispherical combustion chambers, fuelled on the Record model by two carburettors. Engine running. Crankcase No. 84757. The preselective gearbox is a Wilson-Talbot. It has a leak. Bodywork: the door alignment needs reviewing (the doors are sagging), raising concerns about deterioration of the wooden parts supporting the hinges. The paintwork is not original, but the black colour is. The paintwork, which has been repainted in the past and has a weathered appearance, shows some imperfections. This car has drum brakes at both the front and rear. The red leather upholstery is weathered and cracked in places. The original order form, bearing the bodywork number, is present. It has been in the same family for 34 years. This example, which is rather rare in this configuration, is in good overall condition but requires some work to get it running again, as well as a few improvements, as already highlighted in part above. Standard vehicle registration document. Sold as seen. Viewing on 16 October in Haute-Savoie near Geneva. Expert valuation and video available on request. Talbot offered several body styles on the large Record chassis: four-door saloon, convertible, coach and Superprofilé coach. This is a body style from the Talbot catalogue, built on a wooden frame clad in metal panels. According to sources, between 590 and 646 Talbot Records were produced for this model. How many remain? 50–80 might be a figure close to the truth, and of those 50–80, how many are T26 Superprofilé models? Perhaps around ten of what was once one of the jewels in the crown of the French motor industry at the dawn of the 1950s. The mystery remains unsolved!
