Joseph-Jacques REYMANN (1848–?) "Orientalist Bivouac" Oil on parchment, signed lower right, inscribed in Arabic on the reverse: "May your days be happy". (Stains and some loss of paint; the cowrie shells are missing) 33 x 30 cm This painting is one of the most original works by this travelling artist. Stretched over a hexagonal frame, the two parchments form a tambourine decorated around the rim with a leather band adorned with a frieze of cowrie shells.
