Description
France, Order of Saint-Louis Metal grand-croix plaque belonging to General Claparède Gilt. Four double branches with bolted tips (one missing), in imitation of embroidered plaques, interspersed with fleurs-de-lys. The centre is plain, in several parts, with a rocaille border, decorated with an enamelled motif representing Saint Louis in a blue coat and ermine lining (small chips). Reverse side with two side hooks (one formerly refixed) and Biennais steel clip with blued steel spring blade. spring blade. Hare's head hallmark on one point. Manufacture attributed to the silversmith Coudray, circa 1819-1830. Height: 97 mm. Gross weight: 80 g GOOD CONDITION. Provenance: direct descendants of Count Michel Claparède (1770-1842), French general during the Revolution and the Empire, Count of the Empire in 1808 and Peer of France in 1819; private collection, Charente. Vermeil Grand Cross plaque of the Order of Saint Louis belonging to General Claparède, preserved in his family. The General was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Louis on 17 August 1826.
