Bibliography: Jean-Charles Hachet, "Dictionnaire illustré des sculpteurs animaliers & fondeurs de l'Antiquité à nos jours", published by Argus Valentines, Bilbao, 2005, Volume II, model reproduced on p. 771.
A pupil of Georges Gardet, he exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1898, specialising in animal art, particularly hunting. Our sculpture, which is exceptional for its size, takes up a theme that was particularly popular for the cast iron edition, namely that of the hallali of the wild boar. This theme was given pride of place by artists such as Pierre Jules Mêne and Georges Gardet, from whom it takes certain elements, such as the dog on its back.
