Under the Restoration, a large number of designs from the First Empire were re-used to meet demand and the lack of new productions. For example, during the coronation of Charles X, the imperial furniture was transferred to Reims to furnish the royal flats. Likewise, this clock takes up the codes of the previous period, such as Athena and her horses, which is close to Jean-André Reiche's model for the "Telemachus chariot" clock intended for the Maréchaux d'Empire. The frieze is reminiscent of Thomire's Le triomphe de Trajan. This clock therefore bears witness to the last flush of Neoclassicism in the decade 1820-1830.
