Guillaume Cordié (French, c. 1725-1785)
Chest of drawers with central recess
Rosewood, amaranth and stained wood veneer.
It opens with five drawers on three rows. The top drawer is decorated with "à la Reine" marquetry. The two lower drawers are decorated with a butterfly-wing frieze encircled by a checkerboard frieze and Greek-style fillets. The sides are decorated in the same way and the jambs are simulated fluted. Cambered front legs.
Saint Anne grey marble top.
Stamped twice "G.CORDIE". Guillaume Cordié, master in 1766.
Stamped by the Jurande des menuisiers ébénistes.
Transitional Louis XV-Louis XVI period.
Bronze ornamentation: lock escutcheons, falls and pull rings.
Height 87.5 Width 126 Depth 62 cm.
Restorations, small cracks in the veneer.
