MOROCCO, Fez, 20th century
Two circular dishes on feet, known as ‘tobsils’, made of polychrome glazed ceramic. One is decorated in shades of green, yellow, cobalt and manganese, featuring, in its centre, the inscription ‘Fez’ in Arabic script within a hexagonal cartouche surrounded by trapezoidal panels with foliage motifs against a background of interlacing patterns and scrollwork. The other is adorned, at the centre, with a four-petalled flower glazed in yellow, set within a hexagonal cartouche surrounded by a six-pointed star. The whole is bordered with various geometric, foliage and dotted motifs. Hanging holes on the reverse.
