These knives, known as ‘Trumbash’, were considered prestige weapons amongst the Mangbetu, associated with the representation of power and social status. Their dynamic silhouette, with a curved and tapered blade, illustrates the formal refinement developed in the metalworking arts of Central Africa at the turn of the 20th century.
