Description
URHOBO, Nigeria. Light wood, weathered by use. This ancestor statue has a surface weathered by time and ritual use, which lends it a unique presence. It nevertheless retains remarkable formal integrity, as well as great evocative power. It is easy to see why the visual artist Alain Plouvier, following in the footsteps of early 20th-century artists, was drawn to the poetry and expressive power that emanate from this unique work. Early 20th century. H. Provenance: Collection of the visual artist Alain Plouvier, Paris/Chédigny.
