Hardwood, black patina.
A ‘Tugubele’ statue depicting a female figure standing on a dome-shaped base, her hands resting on either side of her belly, with a prominent navel, full breasts and a crested hairstyle.
Tugubele statues are used by diviners and represent the spirits of the bush that inhabit the savannah, forests, fields and streams surrounding the village. (Kerchache, Art of Africa, 1993).
