A rare and ancient zoomorphic ‘Mangam’ mask in the shape of a helmet, characterised by a pronounced snout with an open jaw, circular eye sockets on the sides symbolising the eyes, and two long horns curving backwards.
39.5 x 22 cm.
Note: Masks of this type were worn during events aimed at ensuring agricultural success, promoting healing and marking rites of passage as part of a complex ritual known as ‘mangam’.
