Description
KUBA, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Two ‘Laket Mishiing’ headdresses made of woven raffia, worn by high-ranking men who hold a title at the royal court, thereby affirming their status and place in the social hierarchy. Note: Men were awarded these headdresses following an initiation process that signalled their transition into mature members of Kuba society. As they rose through the social ranks and took on roles requiring greater experience and responsibility, their headdresses changed continually to reflect their achievements. 16x18 cm and 17x18 cm.
