Beaten bark cloth, pigments.
A piece of cloth known as ‘tapa’, made by the ‘Mbuti’ Pygmy hunter-gatherers. It is the men who prepare the tapa using a supple and durable bark from a species of Ficus, after which the tapa is soaked and decorated by the women. The decoration here appears minimalist yet is significant to the Pygmies as it is linked to their creation myth.
