A STUCCO HEAD OF BUDDHA Ancient region of Gandhara, 4th-5th century 24 cm (9 1/2 in.) high Modelled with serene features, the Buddha's wavy hair swept up into a chignon forming the ushnisha above a distinct widow's peak. His almond-shaped eyes are half-closed in meditative introspection, prominent brow bone and eyelids, the cheeks softly rounded, with a fleshy nose and small, composed mouth.
