Description
MONTPELLIER A fluted vase resting on a circular pedestal, with polychrome decoration featuring broad floral scrolls and acanthus leaves ending in dolphin heads within compartments with ochre backgrounds, beige or blue, adorned with a cartouche bearing a pharmaceutical inscription. The neck and base are decorated with floral motifs. Late 16th century. Nicolier label. (damage and repairs) Height: approx. 24.5 cm. This type of piece was previously attributed to Nîmes (see: J.L. VAYSSETTES, L. VALLAURI, Montpellier. Terres de faïences, pp. 136–149). A comparable example is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, inv. 17.190.1806.
