MEISSEN, circa 1970–80. Large Meissen porcelain vase with a floral design. Bears the inscription in gold lettering: ‘VOM DIPLOMATISCHEN CORPS IN DER DEUTSCHEN DEMOKRATISCHEN REPUBLIK’. H. 42 – W. 21 cm This vase was presented as a gift by the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the government of the former East Germany (GDR – DDR). It is not specified to whom this gift was presented – whether to a member of the communist government, a leading international figure, or an ambassador himself accredited to Berlin and leaving his post (a customary diplomatic gift). This vase was purchased from an antique dealer in West Berlin in March 1990 at the time of German reunification. Meissen mark on the underside.
