André Le Tourneur (1886–1932) Study, 1927 Oil on canvas, signed and dated in the top left-hand corner, titled on the Salon des Indépendants label on the reverse 60 x 77 cm Exhibitions: Page 236 of the catalogue for the 38th exhibition of the Société des Artistes Indépendants, held at the Grand Palais in 1928, mentions André Le Tourneur’s participation with two works, including this ‘Study’, listed under no. 2570. Condition report: Baguette frame; craquelure and areas of material loss. Born on 6 April 1886 in Paris, and died on 17 December 1932 in Bourges, Charles François André Le Tourneur was a Parisian industrial draughtsman, house painter, artist, musician and anarchist. From July 1926, he lived at 7 Passage Ramey in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, where he had set up a small painting studio in the building’s courtyard. He presented himself as a dramatic artist and also worked as a musician at dances, where he earned a few fees. In 1928, he took part in the exhibition organised by the Society of Independent Artists, where he exhibited this painting from 1927.
