Georges Lapchine (1885–1950) Mill in the Snow Oil on canvas, signed lower right, 38 x 55 cm Condition report: Framed Born in Moscow, Georges Lapchine enrolled at the Stroganov School in 1900, then moved to Paris from 1906 to 1909, where he trained under Fernand Cormon and Léon Lhermitte. On his return to Moscow in 1910, he took part in the Salon des Indépendants and was one of the founding members of the ‘Svobodnoye Tvorchestvo’ group. Under the Soviet regime, he took part in the first two exhibitions of the Moscow Artists’ Union before returning to Paris in the mid-1920s. He enjoyed a distinguished career until his death in 1950, exhibiting at the Salon des Indépendants and serving as a member of the Société des Artistes Français.
