Late Edo period, Japan. A six-panel Byobu folding screen depicting a palace, inside which a daimyo is surrounded by young women; the main scene shows samurai in battle against a mountainous landscape crossed by a river. Ink and colours on partially gilded paper. Height: 160 cm. Width per panel: 57 cm. Provenance: Former collection of a Brussels-based collector of Belgian and Asian art. There is a small tear (approx. 7 x 6 cm) on one of the panels. Expert: Cabinet Ansas-Papillon-de Léry, Paris.
