Description
A large 950°/°° silver jug. The pedestal with a rounded top is embossed and chiselled with shells and rows of fillets; the body and spout are decorated across their entire surface with two Chinese-inspired scenes set within floral rocaille frames. The hinged lid is crowned with a flower set upon a bed of leaves. Wooden handle with two attachment points. Master silversmith: Francis CRUMP London, 1763–1764. Weight: 1313 g – Height: 30 cm According to family tradition, this jug was presented in 1813 by Arthur Wellesley, who was made Duke of Wellington following his numerous victories over Napoleon I in Spain in the early 19th century, during his stay at the Château d’Arcangues.
