Description
Anonymous Russian artist. First half of the 19th century. Portrait of Semen Davidovich Pantchulidzev (1765–1817). Oil on canvas. Unsigned. S. D. Panchulidzev, brother of the aforementioned, a Major-General (1807) who fought in particular against the French in 1812–1814, and landowner in the province of Saratov; He is depicted in a general’s uniform, with all his decorations: around his neck, the Cross of St George, 3rd class, the Cross of St Vladimir, 2nd class, and the Prussian Red Eagle Cross; on the left side of his chest, the St Anne’s Medal, 1st class; and on the right, the St Vladimir’s Medal, 2nd class, partly covered by the St Anne’s ribbon. He also wears the 1812 Medal and the Cross of Ochakov with a bar denoting the Honour Guard of St George. H.: 60 cm – W.: 50 cm (Cracks and losses). A free copy of the portrait painted by George Dawe, held at the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace. This lot comes from the reception room of the Château d’Arcangues.
