Description
Figures under a red canopy Audenarde wool tapestry. Early 18th century. H.: 290 cm – W.: 310 cm (Signs of wear and tear; the colours appear faded). Figures are chatting and resting in the shade of a large red canopy; in the distance, in the grounds, a fountain can be seen. Border with a blue background and a repeating pattern of small acanthus leaves; for a similar border, see Ingrid De Meûter, 1999, Tapestries of Oudenaarde from the 16th to the 18th Century, p. 218 This lot comes from the reception room of the Château d’Arcangues. Dismantling and handling are the responsibility of, and at the expense of, the buyer.
