Description
Set comprising a cuirassier officer’s helmet and breastplate, consisting of: - Model 1874 officer’s helmet. Iron helmet. Marmouset, godron-decorated crest, headband with grenade motif, scale-patterned chinstraps (minor losses), plume holder and patinated brass ring (traces of gilding). Red horsehair crest and black horsehair mane (some missing). No inner lining. One crest screw missing. - Officer’s cuirass. Made of nickel-plated sheet iron, with iron rivets. Shoulder pads with curb chain links, lion’s-paw shoulder pad fastenings and patinated brass clasps decorated with laurel leaves. Shoulder pad linings and straps in patent leather. Remains of a belt (buckle missing) Markings from the Châtellerault Arms Factory, June 1896, 2nd size, Extra width No. 1, Officer E.M. (Heavily oxidised, requires cleaning). Third Republic. This lot comes from the Oriental drawing room of the Château d’Arcangues.
