GORKY (Maxim). Childhood Petrograd, 1916 Quarto, green cloth binding, volume 20, 2nd edition, with a dedication in Russian from 1917, which can be translated as follows: "To my spiritual son / distinguished chauvinist! / Zenovi Alexeievitch Pechkoff / Mr Gorky / unfortunate father / 5 July 17" (dedication reproduced and translation found on p.10 of "Pechkoff, le manchot magnifique", Guillemette de Sairigné) Provenance: > Zinovi Pechkoff (1884–1966) > By descent Condition report: Not collated Zinovi Pechkoff (1884–1966), the adopted son of Maxim Gorky, was a hero of the Foreign Legion and an adviser to the White Armies between 1918 and 1920. He was promoted to general by Charles de Gaulle and appointed French ambassador to Japan from 1946 to 1950. He was married to Jacqueline Delaunay-Belleville (1906–2001).
