Bamileke culture, Cameroon Kom helmet mask Late 19th/early 20th century Made of hardwood with a rich, thick, crusty patina from use, depicting a female face with wide-open eyes, a staircase-shaped headdress, with semi-circular ears projecting forwards and a slightly parted mouth. H. 30 cm Provenance: Former French private collection. This type of mask, worn during royal ritual dances, represented the face of a queen.
