Description
Hispano-Moorish textile, Spain, probably Andalusia, late 19th century - early 20th century Beige cotton weave embroidered with polychrome silk threads creating a plant rosette surrounded by a round of animals (deer, canids, peacocks), with birds with outstretched wings in the spandrels. The whole is encircled by a border of poly-lobed cartouches inscribed with the Nasrid motto in Arabic: "Wa Lâ Ghâliba illa Allah" / ("No victor, except God") and alternating with poly-lobed medallions decorated with lotus flowers. Fringed border. 120 x 124 cm Some tears, accidents and missing fringes, stains.
