Magic cup, North Africa or Near East, 19th century Circular talismanic bowl with central umbilicus, made of hammered copper alloy and engraved over its entire surface with Arabic inscriptions and numerals arranged in friezes, within arcatures, medallions or poly-lobed cartouches. In the centre of the umbilicus is engraved Solomon's seal containing the name of Allah. On the outer wall runs the Verse of the Throne, Qur'an, II, 255.
