Description
Tabak dish with floral decoration, Ottoman Turkey, Iznik, third quarter of the 16th century A siliceous ceramic circular dish with a scalloped edge, decorated in polychrome under a transparent glaze with a bouquet of blue tulips and red carnations, the stems linked by a clasp and arranged on either side of a scrolled diadem. Decorated with waves and stylised rocks on the rim and a frieze of floral motifs on the back. Diameter: 28.5 cm Small chips around the edges, small enamel chips, reattached breaks on one edge and a transverse crack. Provenance : - Leon Antonian, Alexandria (label on reverse), before 1952. - Purchased by the current owner in 1999. Léon Antonian was a French carpet and antiques dealer of Armenian origin who worked in Alexandria at the beginning of the 20th century.
