Banquet of women in a garden, folio from a manuscript of Nezâmi's Khamseh, the story of Khosrow and Shirîn, India, provincial Mughal style, 17th-18th century
Folio of a manuscript on paper illustrated with a gouache enhanced with gold depicting Shirîn, her face shrouded in flames, kneeling under a canopy in a garden and surrounded by servants, one of whom is fanning her, while others are bringing her food from among those on the ground. In the foreground, musicians around a fountain. Painting framed with text spread over four columns and inscribed in Persian nasta'liq in black ink. 25 lines of text on the back.
