Two portraits of a Maharaja, possibly Maharana Swarup Singh of Udaipur (r. 1842-61), North India, Rajasthan, early 20th century
The first, gouache and gold on paper, depicts the raja, turbaned and dressed in a white jama, riding a bay horse, rearing on its hind legs, with a landscape of hills in the background. The scene is surrounded by a yellow border and a red margin. The second, a medallion portrait, watercolour on paper signed lower right Om Prakash. The maharaja in bust, richly adorned and wearing an orange turban with pearl ornaments. Framed.
30.6 x 24 cm and 22.5 x 18.4 cm
