Tars bowl, Iran qâjâr, 18th century
A tin-plated copper bowl with an engraved decoration and a swollen body surmounted by a curved neck with a hemmed lip. On the neck, an epigraphic frieze in Persian nasta'liq enumerating the fourteen Pure Ones recognised in Duodecimal Shi'ism. On either side, a braided frieze, the top of the body engraved with a frieze of fleurons.
Diameter: 16.5 cm
Perforation at the bottom, minor dents and wear to the tin plating.
