Description
Visit of the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon surrounded by animals, probably Iran or Central Asia, 19th century Gouache and ink on paper depicting the Queen of Sheba seated in a palanquin carried by Divs and surrounded by ladies-in-waiting, walking towards King Solomon, whose face is covered in a nimbus, kneeling on a throne at the foot of a tree filled with birds. In the foreground, numerous animals of different species: lions, a giraffe, a bird, a rhinoceros, a tortoise, a rat and a dragon. Mounted on an album page on card with a black border. Customs stamp in lower left corner. On the back, old collector's label labelled "428 GJO". Size of painting: 24 x 14.5 cm; size of page: 30.7 x 20 cm Accidents and repairs, some polychromatic changes.
