Set of four calligraphies, Iran, 18th-19th century
The first, a large gulzar-type calligraphy in Persian nasta'liq in black ink in large characters with floral decoration, figures and animals in reserve, indicating the invocation Nad-e 'Ali Mazhar al-'Aja'ib. The composition is complemented by polychrome floral motifs and epigraphic cartouches, one giving the Bismillah, others indicating "written by 'Ali" and the date AH 1308 / 1890. All varnished. The second, a Persian siyah mashq in large nasta'liq characters in reserve on a gilt background with floral decoration, dated AH 1317 / 1899. The next two, religious calligraphies in naskhi Arabic, the first of 7 horizontal lines and 11 oblique lines in reserve on a gold background, dated in another hand 1251 H / 1835, the second, a 7-line prayer dated lower left 1124 H / 1712. All mounted as album pages on card with polychrome borders.
