Description
Set of four calligraphies on paper mounted in album pages, Iran, 19th century or earlier and Ottoman Empire The first, a Persian siyah mashq in large nasta'liq characters in powdered gold reserves on a gilded background. The second, Persian calligraphy in nasta'liq shekasteh, the text of several multidirectional lines inscribed in reserves on a gold background, the margin with gilded floral decoration. The third, six poetic verses in Persian nasta'liq inscribed in reserves in oblong cartouches separated by blue borders decorated with gilded foliage. The fourth, Ottoman and undated, is a Qur'anic calligraphy in naskhi Arabic of 17 horizontal lines inscribed in reserves on a gold background, the verses separated by gold discs. Qur'an, II, 35 - 48. Owner's stamp dated 1240 [?] / 1824. All mounted on album pages on card with polychrome borders. Total dimensions: 32.2 x 20.3 cm; 30 x 18.3 cm; 29.8 x 18.3 cm; 29.7 x 18.3 cm. As is, stains, wear, accidents.
