Optician, daguerreotypist and photographer, Eugène Vaillat, active from 1839 to 1859, at 43 Palais-Royal, Galerie Montpensier in Paris. In 1844, he was awarded an honourable mention by the jury at the Exhibition of French Industrial Products for the high standard of his daguerreotypes. In the same year, he published a booklet entitled *Daguerreotype: Instructions for the Use of the Solution*, published by Pollet in Paris. A friend of Louis Daguerre, he produced a daguerreotype portrait of him in 1849 and received an award that same year at the Paris Exhibition of Industrial Products, as well as at the 1855 exhibition. In 1850, he published *Daguerreotype on Plates* with Gaudin. Detailed instructions for safe operation. Use of calcium chlorobromide and iodine bromide. A process for restoring old, stained or oxidised prints to their original condition. In 1854, he co-founded the French Photographic Society.
