[Photograph] Ravenel Castle (Oise) 16 photographic prints, albumen prints, c. 1880, various sizes, mounted on heavy card, 23.5 x 31 cm Views of the Ravenel estate (castle, grounds, entrance gate, church) and scenes of activity in the grounds and courtyard of the castle (wedding, groups of people) Since the mid-18th century, the estate had belonged to the Prondre de Guermantes family (a branch of which took the name Prondre de Ravenel). Emmanuelle ‘Emma’ Prondre de Ravenel (1800–1882) married Count Eugène Scipion de Chazelles (1801–1883). The estate was passed on to their daughter, Marie Amédée de Chazelles. On 11 February 1855, Marie Amédée de Chazelles (1834–1893) married Edmond Ratisbonne (1823–1896). Edmond Ratisbonne was a senior civil servant in the financial administration (Receiver-General of Finances and later Treasurer-Paymaster-General) and the grandson of the Strasbourg banker Auguste Ratisbonne. Towards the end of the Second Empire, the couple lived in the château and raised their children there (Adolphe, Marie-Thérèse, Dominique and Gaëtan). Deeply involved in local life, Edmond Ratisbonne also became mayor of the commune of Ravenel. In 1876, Marie-Thérèse Ratisbonne (1857–1937), daughter of the lord of the manor Edmond Ratisbonne, married Count Léo Ludovic Kuno Mac Mahon de Cernowitz (1851–1933), an infantry captain and squire to the King of the Hellenes.
