Best wishes to your family P.A.S., Chatou, c. 1900, Suzanne Adrienne Berly, wife of Maurice de Vlaminck, addressed to Madame Pichot in Paris; illustrated postcard from the 4th series of ‘Les Maîtres de la Carte Postale’, by Louis Valtat A family album from the Musée des Familles that belonged to Edmée Pichot, daughter of Joseph Anatole Pichot (1845–1914), a wholesale distiller in Paris, and future wife of Georges Johin (1877–1955), silver medallist in croquet at the 1900 Summer Olympic Games in Paris; this album was filled in by members of the Pichot family and friends, including Robert de Vlaminck, born in 1881, brother of Maurice de Vlaminck At the age of 16, Maurice de Vlaminck left his family and moved to Chatou, where he worked as a mechanic, whilst pursuing painting and the violin as hobbies. He developed a passion for cycling, taking part in races and competing for prizes – including Paris–Roubaix in 1897 – in order to supplement his very meagre income. Typhoid fever prevented him from continuing his cycling career. At the age of 18, he married Suzanne Berly in Chatou on 5 September 1896; they went on to have three daughters.
