A large wine glass resting on a silver footed stem (84 zolotniks, 875 thousandths), tulip-shaped with a baluster-style stem, featuring engraved and nielloed decoration depicting two views of Saint Petersburg (the Alexander Column and the Admiralty) within a chequered frieze; in the centre of each side are two inscriptions in French: ‘Souvenir de Hélène Merzbach / 22 December 1848–1873’. BE. Moscow, 1876 (last digit partially effaced). Silversmith: MD in Cyrillic. Gross weight: 246.4 g. H. 19 x D. 9 cm.
