Major Daudiès’s wallet and writing case in green morocco leather with gilt metal trim around the edges, bearing the inscription on the flap in gold lettering: MR LE CHEVALIER DAUDIES – MAJOR OF THE 12th REG. DE CUIRASSIERS; the compartments for pens and inkwells at the top are empty; 42.5 x 38 x 6 cm. (Key missing; some losses and wear). Early First Empire period. Fairly good condition. DAUDIES Michel Jean Paul, Chevalier, born in Perpignan on 29 September 1763. He began his military career in 1885... Appointed assistant to the adjutants-general on 17 January 1796; appointed captain in the 1st Cavalry Regiment by General BONAPARTE on 22 September 1797, then appointed titular captain in the same regiment on 19 June 1799; took part in the Second Italian Campaign, 1800–1801, the regiment having become the 1st Cuirassiers in 1802; took part in the Grand Army campaign in 1805; squadron commander in the 10th Cuirassier Regiment in 1806; took part in the campaigns in Prussia and Poland in 1806 and 1807; major in the 12th Cuirassier Regiment on 7 April 1807; promoted to colonel on 29 March 1813; retained his command during the FirstRestoration; appointed field marshal and granted retirement during the Hundred Days on 12 May 1815; his rank was confirmed on 19 December 1831; retired on 21 December 1833; died in Perpignan on 28 February 1839. Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honour, 14 June 1804; Officer, in 1813; Knight of Saint Louis, 29 July 1814; Knight of the Empire, 9 January 1810.
