Description
Rare officer’s sword of theArtillery General Staff, with chiselled and gilded brass mountings; the shank and pommel modelled on the design of 1st Vendémiaire, Year XII; the clasp adorned with two crossed cannons held by a laurel wreath, surmountedby the imperial crown; the whole set rests upon artillery pieces and cannonballs; the counter-guard is chased with spider’s webs, hilt two plain mother-of-pearl plates; triangular blade engraved one-third of the way up; leather scabbard two gilt brass fittings, engraved with laurel leaves and foliage; length 97.5 cm.
(Leather of the scabbard is of later origin).
Early Empire period. Good condition.
